Illegal dumping is on the rise in Melbourne.
Our data shows that Melbourne’s northern suburbs saw a 72% spike in dumped rubbish Snaps, with the western suburbs following behind with a 25% increase.
Chris Ketley, Wyndham Council’s Litter Surveillance Officer, said it was "a growing problem with more and more rubbish being dumped".
With tip fees rising across Melbourne, community members are turning to illegally dumping their rubbish.
But, illegal dumping has cost Wyndham Council 1.3 million dollars in the last year according to Mayor Jeannie Barrera in an interview with 9 News.
