Abandoned vehicles on our streets are becoming an increasingly common frustration. Our CEO Danny Gorog recently joined Tony Moclair on 3AW to discuss how the app is helping communities tackle this issue head-on.

The numbers paint a clear picture: In 2024 alone, Snap Send Solve received 16,613 reports of abandoned vehicles — a staggering 42% increase compared to the previous year.

That’s over 300 abandoned cars reported each week!

Why is this happening?

Danny highlighted some of the challenges contributing to this rise, including the cost and inconvenience of proper vehicle disposal. Much like illegal dumping, it often becomes cheaper and easier for some individuals to abandon their cars rather than deal with the hassle themselves.

There’s also a misconception that abandoned cars are typically old, rusted-out wrecks. However, Tony shared his experience of using the app to report a relatively young Volkswagen Golf that had been left abandoned and crammed with junk. This shows that the problem isn’t limited to just “bombs.”

How Snap Send Solve makes a difference

The good news? Snap Send Solve is empowering communities to take action. Danny noted that 91% of Snappers who reported an abandoned car said the issue was resolved. The app streamlines the process by connecting reports directly to the relevant local authorities.

Local councils have specific legal processes they must follow when dealing with abandoned vehicles, including identifying the car, notifying the owner, and disposing of the vehicle if unclaimed. Snap Send Solve helps get these wheels in motion faster by providing detailed reports, including photos and geolocation data.

While abandoned cars might not be as widespread as dumped rubbish, they’re still a visible reminder of how individual actions can impact communities. Snap Send Solve is working to make reporting these issues simpler, faster, and more effective, helping to keep our shared spaces clean and safe.
